Summer Break

Summer Break

SpaceFox and Caswallon

I accidentally let my domain expired the week of finals and it has taken us this long to untangle and get it moved and back up.Bronze Corydoras I am back though! And better still, in summer break! I am off until September 24th, when not only I will be going back to school, but Spacefox will be starting preschool (StarBear is being watched by family while I am in class.) Exciting and nerve wracking, the lot of it.

I have lots to talk about and several entries lined up, but for tonight I’ll just leave it at this, and with a photo of Caswallon and SpaceFox walking home together. Caswallon and StarBear met SpaceFox and I at the bus stop earlier this week. SpaceFox and I went to pick out three new fish for his aquarium, a promise I made to him during Summer quarter. He picked bronze corydoras, a variety of dwarf catfish. They are so cute! (The fish… and the guys walking together!)

How have you all been?

Afternoon Snack

I do not think I am going to get much blogging done in between now and the end of summer quarter (August 16th.) Honestly it is kind of all I can do to keep up with my homework and studying. I didn’t realize when I decided to do 12 credits over summer that it was only 6 weeks long rather then 12+ weeks, so it is very intensive.

Doing pretty good with the whole making food in advance and eating out of jars except… I need to find time to grocery shop.

Anyhow back to mathematics and sociology.

Cherry Harvest

Cherry Harvest

Cherry Trees

First week of school just finished (Monday through Thursday in Summer quarter) and oh my goodness so much work, but still, I’m loving it.

Not loving so much the mysterious leak somewhere behind my washer/hot water heater, a good friend is coming over this afternoon to hopefully help me diagnose the problem.

[EDIT: So 90% certainty it is the water heater leaking out the bottom. Balls.]

We picked cherries from our two trees for an hour today and it feels like we haven’t even made a dent in the trees, getting to the limit of our ladder heights though (and the sheds cannot support our weight.) Still…

Bing and Rainier

We have quite a few bing and rainier cherries though no? That yellow bucket is full now and we have about that many left that we can harvest.

Oh goddess, I have to process these now don’t I? Ideas? Fresh eating, filling my dehydrator and…

Life… and my purse

Life… and my purse

Purse Contents

I haven’t been much in a blogging mood lately it seems though I have plenty I want to talk about. Actually it is not even that I haven’t been in the mood to post, I have four half written posts and a list of about ten other ideas. I am suffering from multiple-project-itis or something… stressed-out-being-an-adult-paying-bills-itis maybe? I have too much stuff going on and am having a hard time focusing. When that happens the blog takes a bit of a backseat I guess. I miss it though! I do so love reading your comments.

On the bright side, I did my college orientation the other day and got my student id, class registration and schedule done as well as recieved my book list for Summer Quarter. I’ll be taking a math, history and two 1 credit health classes (all requirements for my AA transfer degree.) I am starting off with 12 easy credits (two of the classes are online and I am only in class in the morning Monday to Tuesday) since it is my first quarter ever and summer time too. Still working out daycare stuff, which is more stressful then I care to address at the moment.

Anyhow, hopefully I’ll be posting more soon. I think I need to make myself a daily schedule again to better allocate my time. I’ll fit blogging in somehow. The answer is simple, I just need a machine that can make me a few extra hours in the day (though I might use it to catch on on sleep at this point.) I’m a mother who will be majoring in physics, I should be able to figure out how to bend space time to my will right?

Also, I can’t blog without a picture so why not hop on a meme-wagon I’ve seen going around and show you the contents of my purse. I also keep my camera in there but, well, I took the picture with it. You understand.

Gah, I need more sleep. Goodnight!

(Other things, my son has an aquarium now, Caswallon and I biked 15.5 miles yesterday, I knit a dice bag, I need to the mow the lawn and transplant my tomatoes, I had homemade fresh spring rolls for dinner yesterday, breakfast today as well as lunch, I had ice cream for dinner, I like run-on sentences, I also finally got Shadowmare in Skyrim because I took today off to do nothing while the kids were at their father’s, Cicero is the best follower ever and yes that crappy phone in the picture really is mine.)

At college today…

At college today…

I was going to leave this little anecdote on my private g+ and facebook but… I just had to share.

I went to SCC this morning to meet a friend who showed me around (turns out I can’t get my student ID yet, not matter what the paperwork they gave me says.) As I was unlocking my bike to come how a guy approached me with a petition form, and the conversation went as such:

Him: “Are you registered to vote?”
Me: “No. I’m Canadian.”
Him: “Well you should really register, every vote counts!”
Me: *dubious feeling* “I’m Canadian, they don’t let me vote…”
Him: “Really?”
Me: “Really really. Only American citizens can vote.”
Him: “Huh. You should become one then! Have a nice day!”

Seriously? Please tell me he misunderstood me somehow? Please?

College Hearts

College Hearts

College HeartsJust in case I haven’t mentioned it enough at this point, I am going back to college this Summer quarter! I am shooting to get my AAS (Associate of the Arts in Science) and then hopefully onto my BS (Bachelor’s in Science) and certification in teaching, so I can eventually become a high school physics teacher. Eventually I hope to go on to get my Master’s in physics and teach college, but I want to teach high school for at least a few years first. I am incredibly excited and very nervous about the prospect of it all.

With student loans and scholarships, I am fortunate enough to not need to worry about my tuition. Once I get that aid, keeping up with bills will be a bit easier (things will be extremely tight, but I can go without to reach my dreams). That said, there are all these little school related expenses that keep popping up that keep stretching my budget near to breaking.

A perfect example is the placement testing I will be doing today, the fee was $30. Then there was the $25 admission fee, and once I need to start buying actual school supplies (and books!) I am sure it will only get more expensive. I will not get my aid until summer quarter starts (July). So, on the suggestion of friends and family, I thought I would try a fundraiser.

These are my College Hearts. Each one is made from 100% wool yarn from a small farm in Oregon. The yarn has been dyed in my favorite colour combination, blue and red (with a bit of purple). Once I finish each heart, I hand felt it to give it a smoother and softer appearance and so it fits in your hand (you can squeeze my heart! Eeee!) I can attach a loop so that you can hang it as an ornament if you like. I have one hanging like that from the twig tree on our family altar.

College Hearts

Are you interested in one of my College Hearts? I am offering them for $8 each (which includes shipping in the USA and Canada. If you live abroad please consider adding a little more for shipping.)
